10 Reasons Why You are Not Listened To

A lot of people get shocked when policy and political decision-makers don’t want to listen to them.
In my 30-plus years, the reasons why you are not listened to are quite simple.
10 Reasons Why You are Not Listened To
  1. You turn up late, after the decision has been taken.
  2. Your issue is not on the policy/political agenda.
  3. What you say and write is unclear.
  4. You don’t bring any credible evidence/solutions to the table.
  5. You speak a foreign language to policy/political decision-makers.
  6. You have been listened to a lot in the recent past, and nothing new is being brought to the table.
  7. You don’t look the part.
  8. You offend people.
  9. You whine a lot.
  10. You have done something stupid, like lying or not doing what you said you’d do.
These are universal, and I’ve seen this both working with industry and NGOs.
The solutions are quite easy. Many people are unable to adapt and are shocked that they are ignored.
